Guide — Thornwall

Thornwall is a free browser tower-defense game where you defend a dark canyon fortress against waves of void-corrupted creatures. No install, no login — just open the page and play.

What is this?

Thornwall is a strategic tower-defense game set in a moody, atmospheric canyon. You are the defender of the Thornwall — a fortress at the far end of a winding canyon path. Your job: place elemental towers along the path, upgrade them, and survive 60 escalating waves of void-corrupted creatures.

The game alternates between two phases — placement (where you buy, place, upgrade, and sell towers) and watch (where you watch your towers automatically fight the incoming enemies). It is completely free. There are no accounts, no downloads, and no microtransactions. Your score goes on a top-100 leaderboard with a display name you pick from a curated list.

How to play

1. Placement Phase. You start with 200 gold. Click a tower type from the bottom panel (Thorn Spire, Wind Vortex, Crystal Prism, or Root Snare), then click an empty placement node on the canyon path to build it. Each tower costs gold and occupies one node. You can also click an existing tower to upgrade it (to tier 2 or tier 3) or sell it for a 60% refund. Click “Start Wave” when you are ready.

2. Watch Phase. Enemies spawn at the canyon entrance and walk along the path toward the Thornwall. Your towers automatically attack enemies in range. Each enemy that reaches the wall costs you one life (you start with 20). Survive all enemies in the wave to earn gold and return to placement phase.

3. Game Over. When your lives reach zero, the game ends. You see your score card — a shareable result showing your wave count, tower layout, and final score. Pick a display name and your score goes on the leaderboard.

4. Victory. Survive all 60 waves to break the void and win. This is extremely difficult — it requires optimal tower placement and composition.

FAQ

Is Thornwall really free? Yes. There are no accounts, no payments, and no microtransactions. The game is supported by ads shown on the title screen and score screen — never during gameplay.

Do I need to create an account? No. There is no login, no sign-up, and no persistent profile. Your leaderboard entry uses a display name you pick from a curated list — it is not tied to any identity.

How is the score calculated? Your score is based on waves survived, remaining gold efficiency, remaining lives, and bosses killed. The maximum possible score is 8,700.

Can I play on mobile? The game is designed for desktop (1280×720 minimum). It works on tablets in landscape mode but is not optimized for phones.
